Fusible Machine Applique - Ellijay

Fusible machine appliqué is a technique to add fabric to a quilt or project to create additional layers and motifs that are difficult to achieve with piecing. The student will learn a how to use a variety of stitches to achieve different looks for appliqué.

The project will be a wall hanging or pillow.

Skills to learn in class
• Creating fusible appliqué pieces from a pattern
• Applying text in appliqué
• Machine appliqué using straight stitch, satin stitch, buttonhole stitch and other
decorative stitches
• Couching thread or yarn

Supply list
• Sewing machine with variety of decorative stitches. Featherweights will not work for this class.
• Machine table and knee lift (helpful, but optional)
• Open toe appliqué foot (for Bernina #20)
• Paper scissors
• Pencil
• Small 4” scissors
• Variety of thread to match fabric choices including matching text, thread, spools, needle, yarn.
• ½ yd fabric for background
• Fat eights or scraps of 3-6 different fabrics for thread colors
• Fat quarter for text, tonal or solid black
• Grey fabric scraps
• Scrap of yarn to use as thread
• 1 yd of paper backed fusible webbing
• Optional: invisible thread
